Upon the Bones of Yesterday

From the ruins of yesterday

build —
brick upon skull
skull upon stone

with the shards
of discarded
unrecognizable
yesterday.

Gather the bricks
of your home
smashed apart
by inhuman hordes;

gather the bones
of your selves
obliterated
by snow;

gather the stones
of your lighthouse
blasted apart by lightning
and storms;

gather these things together
and build.

Today

rise up
say goodbye
to the moon
retreating beyond
a graveyard horizon;

turn and
face a new horizon
of lanterns waking up
in palace windows;

feel a new sun rising
on new eyes.
