Tracy, I’ve only heard that term used before in science fiction, but knowing your background I looked it up. The article I found mentioned that empaths can be particularly open to emotional vampires, and it really “clicked” for me.

social forum here and all so don’t to get into it but for a long time I cut myself off from people completely and swore off all romantic relationships. It was only as I’ve gotten older that I realized it’s because people’s emotions absolutely overwhelm me, and I’m a protective person by nature so I spent all my time wanting to heal everyone’s wounds.
