The Only Free and Open Country

In between
the impulse (emotion)
and the action
is a narrow space.

Within that
narrow space
is a free and
open country,

and within
that free
and open
country

is the only
(real) freedom
possible in
this world

fashioned
as it is
from
chains
into
nooses.

Train the eye
to see the gap;
train the mind
to live there —

the country broadens.
