Thank you, Medium, for Standing Against the AI-Hacks!
Alright, I’m going to make this quick.
I was going to send a “thank you” note to the Medium admin folks, but I don’t know how to do so. It then occurred to me that I wanted to make this public, anyway, because they deserve it.
Medium just sent an email stating that all AI-generated writing would be ineligible for placement behind the paywall — meaning it can’t make money.
I instantly felt a rush of glee (and it’s got to be pretty damn gleeful for me to use the inherently corny word ‘glee’) and sincere gratitude to them for this.
My gratitude has nothing to do with me relying on Medium for a substantial part of my income. I don’t care about the financial aspect, per say.
What I appreciate is that Medium has taken a stand for the human (personally, I’d add “spiritual,” but I know that’s not many people’s bags these days) aspect of writing.
It’s taken a stand for the inherent human value in individual literary expression and communication.
