Takes guts to ask these questions and try to look at this objectively. By nature I am a personal-freedom absolutist...and yet, when looking at things logically, I don't believe that society can exist without some degree of rule-enforcement, and rules are by their nature, at least partially, "totalitarian." The paradox is that having some rules makes us more free in other ways....it's just a matter of finding the right balance, which is always doomed to be ambiguous and more emotional than rational...which leads us to the endless battles of modern existence.

Just my perspective on it. I appreciate the article.
