Mr. Jacob Ransom announced that he will construct a Masonic Temple on top of the old Indian burial ground at the southern edge of town.

No one knows which tribe used the grounds to dispose of their dead. They were gone long before Angus Slocum discovered this land.

“It will make a good location for our lodge,” Mr. Ransom said. “There’s a lot of history buried in the ground there. We Freemasons love history.”

The site has previously been noted in the Slocum’s Hollow Gazette for the disappearances of Mary and Ashley Gorven and for unverified reports of bonfires burning brightly in the late hours of the night. Last October Mrs. Lilly Corvin claimed she saw the Devil flee in that direction.

Other than the mutilated skeletons dug up from the earth, the only evidence of the hill’s pre-European occupants comes from a series of cave drawings primitively depicting horned shadow figures and spiraling portals.

Mr. Ransom denies rumors that the Masons will be conducting seances and ritual initiations on the grounds.

“Look,” Mr. Mason said, “people need to calm down. I’m simply building a Masonic Temple on an Indian burial ground riddled with depictions of a demonic attack. Any and all fears are misguided and untrue. What can possible go wrong?”
