Interesting stuff. I’ll think on this, for sure.
The current immigration “debate” is interesting. It seems like so much of the divide is caused simply by sloppy use of language. If people were more clear when they are referring to illegal immigrants vs immigrants, and if they slowed down and really looked at the full breadth of statistics and the issues surrounding it, I think they’d find that it’s actually an immensely complicated issue with no perfect answer, just varying degrees of good vs bad consequences.
The problem, as with everything else, is that people can’t seem to even talk about it without resorting to inflammatory language and accusation and emotional appeal…it’s just a big mess like everything else in public debate, and I really don’t think it needs to be.
The topic is far more complicated than most people are admitting. But, as usual, the extreme ends of the spectrum are driving public debate.
