In his autobiography (also titled Fortunate Son) Forgerty, who was patriotic and not anti-American like so many of his contemporaries, recounted that while he was that White House for a performance a Vietnam vet stopped him and told him about how they’d play “Bad Moon Rising” before going into the jungle on night missions. It’s an interesting moment in the book. I believe Fogerty describes his feeling as “humbled.”
