I grew up working on farms. After high school did construction, flooring, cooking, dishwashing, and the Army.

After the Army I got a white collar desk job. I consistently feel like I made a terrible mistake and need to get out. The money keeps me doing it, but seriously, I was not made to sit in an office all day.

Today I was reading that suicide rates and depression has skyrocketed among men. My personal feeling on that is that it’s related to the modern workplace. Blue collar work increasingly pays less and loses opportunities, but I think most men are designed to do that kind of work. We aren’t meant to sit on our asses indoors staring into computer screens all day.

I don’t know. Regardless, I always chuckle when coworkers whine about how tough their day was. They clearly never spent 8 hours bent over in half exposed to the blazing sun in 90 degree Pennsylvania summer heat picking green beans for 2.50 a bushel. THAT’S work.
