How Hypnosis Can Help Writer’s Block (And Why I Love Hypnotizing Writers)
Last year, a woman I’ll call Sofie came to me with a problem that I had never before used hypnosis for. She was suffering from writer’s block, and it was taking a toll on her. She had no idea that she’d come to the perfect person for her problem. Neither did I, at the time.
I didn’t have any hypnotic approaches ready for Sofie because I had never attempted to help anyone with writer’s block before. In all my hypnosis coursework and independent study, I’d never seen anyone else discuss that particular issue, either. What I did have, however, was an instant understanding, rapport, and desire to help.
I’m a writer as well as a hypnotist, and I’ve been writing since long before I was hypnotizing. Sofie didn’t have to explain to me why, as a non-professional writer, her creative block bothered her so much. I got it without her having to say anything else. Sofie wasn’t simply a writer, she was (and is) a Writer with a capital “W.”
Writers with capital Ws may find a way to make money from their craft, but they write first-and-foremost because it’s who they are. It’s as much a part of their being as loving their families, laughing at other people’s mishaps, or yearning for God.
