A Certain Voice
Certain voices resonate with certain people. Anna Atkinson’s does it for me.
Come at me, bro.
COME AT ME.)
Well, now she’s back, emerged from the psychic wilds of Canada with a new single released in anticipation of a brand-spanking-new album. She changed up her name for this one, releasing under the name “Linaire.”
The song’s called “Feeling.” Its simple, minimalist synth music stays low in the background and allows Atkinson’s voice to take center stage. This wasn’t always the case on her Sky Stacked Full album, when the experimental instrumentation frequently stood at the fore. That was all good, too. Sky Stacked Full is an excellent work of art and one worthy of more attention than it’s thus far received.
But, something about Atkinson’s voice just works with my frequency, and I love the ranging-space it’s given on “Feeling.” I could probably plumb the depths of my mind to figure out what it is about her singing that strikes such a chord in me, but really, who cares?
It is what it is, and what it is for me is beautiful and warm and affecting.
It just works for me. Maybe it’ll do the same for you. Maybe not.
Only one way to find out, friends— listen.
